Mr. Maurice Guercio, Manager - JFKSW
United Airlines - Onboard Service
JFK International Airport, Building #59
Jamaica, NY 11430

Dear Maurice:

The Flight Attendants domiciled at JFK have suffered many disappointments in the past few years: the loss of South America flying, the closing of their former bases in MIA, then PHL and EWR, and finally the loss of the former "crown jewel" of United's route structure, the JFK / NRT service, along with the LHR flight - all routes we depended on to maximize our income. In the meantime, the ranks of those commuting to JFK has continued to grow.

"As you well know, reciprocal cabin seat agreements are of particular interest to the Flight Attendants at JFK. These agreements are rapidly becoming an industry standard among United's competitors."

Although you have often said those Flight Attendants who commute "choose to do so," we wholeheartedly disagree. We are a workforce with spouses and children who cannot easily uproot our families and move to one of the country's most expensive metropolitan areas on our very modest income.

Addressing quality of life issues for Flight Attendants is critical to our collective success as an airline. The sacrifices, hard work and dedication of United Airlines' front-line workers must be recognized if our airline is to achieve its full potential as the pre-eminent airline of the world.

As you well know, reciprocal cabin seat agreements are of particular interest to the Flight Attendants at JFK. These agreements are rapidly becoming an industry standard among United's competitors. Reducing hassles for Flight Attendants commuting to work will benefit our airline as more employees will have the ability to focus on the success of the company rather than expending time, energy and compensation on getting to and from work.

On behalf of the over 800 Flight Attendants based at JFK, who have worked hard over the past six months to bring this issue to management's attention, we expect your support. Don't let this opportunity lapse for Flight Attendants at JFK who have continued to provide outstanding service despite the many setbacks to our worklives and our household income.

Sincerely,

Dianne M. Tamuk, President
AFA-CWA Council 5 - JFK
