Tentative Agreement

Date: January 10, 2012
Type: MEC President Letter

Ladies and Gentlemen:

After 12 weeks of Expedited Mediation we reached a Tentative Agreement with United Airlines on January 7, 2012. The United Master Executive Council has reviewed the Tentative Agreement and has voted to accept the Tentative Agreement which is now being sent to you for your consideration. The complete Tentative Agreement is now available on our website and we encourage you to review the full text of the Tentative Agreement as well as the summary information being posted on a regular basis.

This Agreement is a step in the right direction. It’s clear that we have more to accomplish in the next negotiations, and equally clear that we have achieved substantial improvements to our current Contract while standing strong to protect our quality of life, which we all have worked so hard to reach.

This Tentative Agreement addresses the priorities you expressed to our Negotiating Committee and provides much needed relief to our community who have been working under a bankruptcy-imposed Contract. This Agreement is Good for Flight Attendants and provides immediate improvements in compensation, transformational improvements for Reserves, and enhancements to our Schedule Flexibility, Job Security and Quality of Life.

Despite many obstacles and challenges, we remained undeterred from our number one goal of reaching an Agreement that addresses your immediate needs and serves as a stepping stone to a Single Contract with our flying partners from Continental and Continental Micronesia. Keep in mind that if this Agreement is ratified, United Airlines is obligated to begin preparations for Single Contract negotiations no later than sixty (60) days following ratification.

The ultimate decision on our future rests in your hands. Soon you will have an opportunity to vote on this Tentative Agreement. Preparations are underway for informational meetings and a voting period. We encourage you to become informed by carefully understanding the components of our Tentative Agreement. For further information, please be sure to attend an upcoming roadshow, talk with your elected Local Leadership and view the upcoming video on our website.

In Solidarity,

Greg Davidowitch, President
United Master Executive Council
