PORTLAND, Ore. -- Some local airline employees are upset with United Airlines and they aren’t the only ones.

On Friday morning, United flight attendants around the world staged protests, including one at Portland International Airport.

They say they want a new contract and they’re tired of pay cuts and canceled pensions.

United merged with Continental Airlines a few months ago. Since then, the flight attendants say they’ve hoped for better work rules, pay rates, retirement options and job protection.
One protester, Tamara Rife, says they want to get the word out that they’ve been working without a contract for a year now.

Rife says they are living with the same wages they’ve had since 1994. She also says they’ve been trying to negotiate with the company for a new contract since April 2009 and they aren’t getting anywhere.

When FOX 12 tried to contact United Airlines, they would only comment on reaching a tentative agreement with Continental flight attendants earlier this week. They say they are committed to working with the entire union to develop fair contracts.
