Contract Survey
2012-2016 Contract
March 26, 2010
Ladies and Gentlemen:
We have been in Railway Labor Act Section 6 negotiations for nearly one year now. Our Negotiating Committee presented our Opening Proposal to United management on April 6, 2009. Our Proposal is based on your feedback through surveys, local meetings, one-on-one discussions with your representatives, email and telephone exchanges along with discussions during system-wide Strategic Advantage Contract Roadshow meetings with our Negotiating Committee. We’ve talked about our collective goals for improvements and the process of fighting to achieve them.
It’s critical that we continue our two-way communications as part of our comprehensive Contract Campaign. We are launching another Negotiations Survey in the month of April as part of our on-going discussion. The survey will be open from Thursday, April 1, at 12 Noon Central Time through Thursday, May 13, at 1100 Central Time.
Each week our negotiators report from the negotiating table. And, each week we discuss negotiations within our Union through our Flight Attendant Negotiations Network (FANN) as well your Local Council Officers. This survey is another important part of gathering feedback and continuing our two-way communication to keep you directly involved in the process.
The entire purpose of these negotiations is to achieve meaningful improvements for United Flight Attendants – for you. When you participate you have a stake in the negotiations – and it is your involvement that will make the difference as we negotiate for the Contract we want. It is not enough to take part in one picketing event, go to one meeting or respond to one survey. Every time our Negotiators call on us for participation and feedback we need to make every effort to do our part.
We encourage every Member to take time to enter your feedback electronically. A link to the on-line survey is posted on www.unitedafa.org, along with the survey access instructions that are included in this mailing. A copy of the survey is enclosed in this mailing. We encourage you to take time to answer the questions on paper prior to entering your responses through the web or telephone. This will allow you to prepare your answers before you go online or call in and will reduce the time necessary to respond.
Most importantly, be sure that you take time to respond and continue to take an active role in our negotiations. Enter your feedback and then encourage your flying partners to do the same. Your responses are strictly confidential to our Negotiating Committee and all of you feedback will be reviewed once the survey closes at the end of April. Your Negotiating Committee and your 16,000 fellow United AFA Members thank you for your time and commitment.
In Solidarity,
Your Negotiating Committee
