Mid Term Elections 2014 
Many observers on the right and on the left expected the midterm election to be a “Republican year” but even Republicans were surprised at how well they did in the polls.  Voters appeared to vote more liberally on ballot issues than on candidates.   

Republicans have gained a strong majority in both the United States Senate and House of Representatives.  Republicans took control of the Senate by winning democratic-held seats in Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Montana, South Dakota, North Carolina, West Virginia and Alaska.   There will be a run-off election in Louisiana, where incumbent Senator Mary Landrieu (D) faces an uphill battle after her Keystone Pipeline bill was defeated in the U.S. Senate earlier this week.  

Control of the House remains in Republican hands as Democrats lost at least 14 congressional seats.  Many of our friends, on both sides of the aisle, who were facing difficult races, will be returning to Washington.  But the devastating loss of AFA Heroes Tim Bishop of New York and Nick Rahall of West Virginia is heartbreaking.  

There is still one House race left unresolved in Arizona District 2 where republican candidate Martha McSally is currently leading democratic incumbent Congressman Ron Barber.  The last two House races decided this week were in favor of incumbent democrats Ami Bera, California District 7 and Jim Costa, California District 16.   Editor’s note, Martha McSally won her election.  


NAI Fly-In
Our lobby visits during the NAI Fly-In were extremely successful and as of Friday, November 21 we had 143 signatures on the letter to Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx urging him to deny Norwegian Air International’s (NAI) application for a foreign air carrier permit.  

The deadline to sign the letter is close of business today.  If your member of Congress is on this list, please remember to write or Tweet a thank you.
