United Needs Employee Support on Capitol Hill for IAD to CPT Route!

Date: May 24, 2022
Type: AFA Article

The Company is asking for our support through grassroots advocacy for their application to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for service from IAD to CPT (Cape Town, South Africa).

If approved, the new route would be the first-ever nonstop service by a U.S. carrier connecting Washington, D.C. with Cape Town.

The DOT’s competitive route proceeding kicked off last week, and United expects the DOT to decide quickly. That means that United needs our help.

You can send a letter to the DOT letting them know that you want United to connect IAD with South Africa.

United expects Delta to fight hard to win the right to serve Cape Town from Atlanta. But our airline’s proposed service is better positioned to serve two capitals with strong cultural ties amongst many other benefits.

Please note that your participation is voluntary and not required as part of your job. United is asking only U.S. domestic employees who wish to do so to send a letter of support.
