On December 5, 2011, United announced the need to reduce staffing by 2,100 Flight Attendant’s.  Bidding for Voluntary Furlough closed this morning at 0800 CST. United has been able to award Voluntary Furloughs to all Flight Attendants who submitted a bid for this industry leading Contractual provision.

Management has committed to make every attempt possible to resolve any remaining staffing overage through voluntary measures.  As a result of AFA and the company working together, and based on the expected outcome of the partnership award, we expect there will be no involuntary furloughs.

Voluntary furlough award list will be available by Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 1700 CST.

All Voluntary Furloughs will commence March 2, 2012.  Flight Attendants will receive a Voluntary Furlough confirmation letter from the company at their permanent address on file with United.  The letter will also contain information about United's check-out process.

The Partnership Program bidding period closes on January 12, 2012 at 0800 CST with awards to be posted no later than 1700 CST that same day if domicile need and cost effectiveness of the Partnership Program in the aggregate warrants.  If you are interested in Partnership flying, we encourage you to consider submitting your bid before the deadline.  Please review the Partnership 6 Program Packet located on our website.

We sincerely appreciate all Members who volunteered for the Voluntary Furlough and the Partnership Program.  Our Flight Attendant community has once again collectively saved the jobs of our most junior Members and we are grateful to all AFA Members who offered assistance to make this happen.
