As a probationary Flight Attendant, can I wear my AFA pin?
Yes. You can wear it as soon as you receive your "wings."

What rights do I have as an apprentice (probationary) Member?
All Sections of the Contract, except for disciplinary grievances apply to you as an apprentice Member. Union Representatives are available to answer your questions and concerns.

Can the Union file a grievance for me while I am on probation?
AFA can file a grievance on your behalf concerning Contract violations. AFA cannot represent you in any disciplinary hearings during the first six months; however, please contact a Union Representative if you are involved in any situation that could lead to discipline.

When do I pay dues?
Your $50 dues are not collected until the completion of your probation. If you completed a Dues Check-off Form, dues are automatically deducted every month from your paycheck on the 16th of the month.

May I attend a Union meeting while I'm on probation?
Yes, you are welcome to attend Union meetings during your probation period with United.

How is my seniority within my training class determined?
Section 17.B. of our Contract states that Flight Attendants who were hired after October 2,1997 will have their seniority determined by the last four digits of their file number when more than one Flight Attendant is assigned to the line on the same day.

When am I eligible for medical and dental benefits?
Flight Attendants are eligible for medical and dental benefits on Flight Attedant training graduation day.  Election of specific benefits will need to be made through the United Benefits Center on the YBR – Your Benefits Resources website within 30 days after the date of graduation.

If you do not elect coverage during this thirty (30) day period following graduation, by default you will have no coverage if you make no election.

After one year of service, new hire Flight Attendants are automatically defaulted into Group Universal Life Insurance (GUL) and Long Term Disability Insurance (LTD) coverage.
