AFA Sponsored Supplemental Benefits Open Enrollment
AFA Benefits Committee

Open enrollment for AFA-sponsored voluntary supplemental benefits is just around the corner, and we’ve got some important updates for this year’s program. We want to ensure our Members have an opportunity to consider the value that accompanies the available group voluntary supplemental benefits of accident, critical illness, cancer, whole life, hospital indemnity and short term disability.

As we have in past years, AFA-CWA is pleased to sponsor AFA supplemental benefit plans to all United AFA Members in partnership with our exclusive AFA-CWA supplemental benefits provider, National Group Protection (NGP), with products unwritten by Continental American Insurance Company (CAIC).

Our annual open enrollment is planned for April 2 – 26, 2024, and there are three ways by which you can interact with NGP to obtain these benefits online, telephonically, or, renewed this year, in person in the bases.

In-person opportunities will be available in the seven large bases as follows:

The same opportunity for in-person interaction with NGP representatives will be available at the following bases as listed:

Satellite bases present unique challenges that make in-person enrollment difficult. NGP representatives welcome the opportunity to meet with Flight Attendants from Satellite bases and LHR* at any of the on-site enrollment opportunities at the larger bases.

National Group Protection representatives can be reached toll-free at 800-344-9016 should you have questions in advance of the open enrollment timeline.

Social Media Awareness

As safety professionals, we are trained to think through situations with a discerning eye. In some instances, we need to be aware of the potential risks associated with sharing our lives on various social media platforms. We spend more time with our passengers than any other work group. We are the face of United. With that comes our first and last names being prominently displayed throughout the course of our workday. Be it our badge, our name bar or wings our names are often visible.

Take a moment for social media safety. Review your personal accounts and verify the kinds of information you have set to public access. Here are a few suggestions to help protect your privacy.

  • Consider making your profile private and verify what someone not in your friend circle could learn about you without your awareness.
  • Keep all your personal details such as work experience, places lived, contact info, and date of birth hidden from the public.
  • Secure your settings by requesting permission for tagging.
  • Never tag your locations when at layover hotels.

Our career choice affords us incredible opportunities to share our experiences with friends, family and even coworkers. Over the years it is a good practice to review who has the ability to view your accounts and if it is in your best interest to update who you grant access to your profiles.

Remember to trust your instincts, always be proactive, and make social media awareness a part of your life.

AFA and Vote411.org

As we near the end of Women’s History Month, we have exciting news to share. After spending several years in development, we are pleased to announce that the AFA-CWA landing page at the League of Women Voters’ website is now up and running!

Vote411, provides resources to register to vote, verify existing voter registration status, identify polling locations, and learn more about deadlines and key dates for early and mail-in voting. Flight Attendants can also review candidates, and measures will be on the ballot, from federal and state all the way down to local elections. The page acts as a link to other important resources, with voter guides, checklists, and quick-reference voting rules.

Learn more about your upcoming election opportunities and let your vote be your voice for a labor-strong future.

Welcome Class 2401!

Every time a new Flight Attendant joins our career, they bring with them their unique talents and abilities, further strengthening our profession and our Union. On behalf of United AFA, we would like to extend a warm welcome to the newest Members of our Flight Attendant family Class 2401!!

Our newest Flight Attendants will be based at our domiciles in DEN, SFO, IAD, and ORD. We look forward to helping them as they begin this incredible career.

As you meet new Flight Attendants on the line, please remember that they are on probation. Connect them with the most accurate information to support them as they begin their careers by directing them to their AFA Local Council for assistance on Contractual issues.

If you are interested in supporting our newest Members, reach out to your local council to see how you can be a part of shaping their early careers as an AFA volunteer!
