As Flight Attendants, we find ourselves away from home on most Election Days, where we often rely on early voting and mail ballots to cast our vote in local, state, and national elections.

The Freedom to Vote Act sets national standards for us to cast our ballots safely and freely, ensuring that every vote is counted.   However, just this year, 19 States where a significant amount of our Flight Attendant population lives have so far passed 33 laws restricting voting rights including the shortening of early voting periods, eliminating voting locations, making it harder to request a mail-in or absentee ballot, restricting people from handing out water when lines are long, and more are likely to come as legislatures convene next year.  

The freedom to vote is under attack by extremist state lawmakers across the country who want to put up deliberate barriers to make it harder to vote.  At the same time, those same state lawmakers are currently drawing partisan legislative maps to choose which voters they represent, instead of the other way around. 

These attacks on voting rights are a direct attack on Flight Attendant voting rights.   That is why our AFA Leaders, AFA Government Affairs and AFA Local Councils are fighting to ensure The Freedom to Vote Act is passed by the Senate.

What will The Freedom to Vote Act accomplish?

• Allow for same day voter registration
• Protect and expand secure access to voting by mail
• Establish 15 days of early voting, including at least two weekends, and
• Protect against voter intimidation
