Absentee and Overseas Voting
MEC Government Affairs Committee

Voting is at the core of our democratic way of life. But, your ability to exercise this fundamental right is not automatic, you must register to vote. Voter registration deadlines vary by state but can be as early as 30 days prior to an election.

As Flight Attendants, we are not always able to predict our schedules. The COVID-19 crisis has made it even more difficult. We may not be able to go to the polls on election day.  Most states allow anyone who is “absent on business” to request an absentee ballot and vote by mail.  For overseas voters, you must request the Federal Post Card Application

Overseas Voters

All U.S. citizens living overseas, including dual nationals and citizens who have never lived or voted in the United States, should register to vote, and request their absentee ballot.  U.S. Flight Attendants who reside outside the United States should register and request an absentee ballot by completing the Federal Post Card Application. Have You Requested Your Absentee Ballot?

Because of the COVID-19 global pandemic, the State of California, by executive order from Governor Gavin Newsom to protect public health, every registered voter in California will receive a ballot in the mail for the General Election on November 3rd. Other states may follow, but we should not rely on this to ensure we are able to vote.  Additionally, many states have postponed their primary elections and the current health crisis makes the following dates fluid and they may again change*.
