MEC Government Affairs Committee

As Flight Attendants, we work in a highly regulated environment. Decisions affecting our safety and security, our work environment and our job security are routinely made in Washington, D.C.  For this reason, it's crucial that we have a seat at the table and that our voices are heard when these decisions are discussed.

Our AFA Government Affairs Committee, works to represent and express the concerns of Flight Attendants on issues which impact our security and safety, our health, our workplace, the safety of our passengers, as well as our rights to Union representation. The Committee Members lobby Senators and Representatives on legislative issues relevant to Flight Attendants, and work to establish an on-going relationship with these offices.

Lobbying is an essential and necessary component of the work our Government Affairs Committee does. It is important to point out the vast majority of this work is accomplished by volunteers, and funded by voluntary contributions from eligible AFA Members to FlightPAC, our Political Action Committee (PAC).

Over the course of the next few weeks, we will embark on an educational series about FlightPAC.

During this time, we will share with you how FlightPac makes a difference for the Flight Attendant profession and why AFA’s support of political candidates who support Flight Attendant issues is an effective tool to advance and defend the priorities of Flight Attendants.

Following the educational series and beginning April 1, 2019, we will conduct FlightPAC roadshows in domiciles across the system in an effort to further raise awareness and support of our United AFA Political Action Committee. This is a critical investment in our future as we work to  carry our message loudly and clearly, as a single voice, to our elected representatives in Washington, D.C.

Additional information detailing the ongoing work of the Government Affairs Committee can be found on our MEC website at unitedafa.org.
