United has applied to obtain six slot pairs at Haneda Airport in central Tokyo as part of the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) competitive route proceeding. An award of slots to United depends on the U.S. and Japan formalizing an aviation agreement later this year and the DOT approving United’s proposal.  If approved, the flights are expected to begin before the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.
