Before December 12, 2019

Being that this is the first time the company is providing opportunity for job shares and regularone-month COLAs under this JCBA, Flight Attendants are strongly encouraged to review the provisions in JCBASections 15.B., 15.N. and Section 16 in addition to reading the “COLA, Job Share and Multiple-Month Partnership Program Overview” guide available on our website, unitedafa.org and on Flying Together.

This upcoming January One-Month COLA:

  • Because this is a COLA, Medical benefits are not offered at active employee rates
  • If awarded a COLA, you will NOTbe expected to fly a carryover trip into the January bid month

Additional administrative changes for job shares are that Reserves will have more options for splitting their lines as well as the procedure for job share partners splitting their awarded line. Once awarded a job share, go to Help Hub (search keyword: Job Shares) to submit the form designating how you would like to split your line award.

As a reminder, job share partners split the line award of the senior partner and each partner is limited to a monthly maximum of fifty-five hours (55:00) pay and credit.

Awarding Process for January One-Month COLA & Job shares

One-month COLAs and matched job share requests are combined into a single list by base in seniority order and are awarded during the same process.

Matched job shares are awarded based on the seniority of the senior Flight Attendant partner.

Both flying partners must submit a bid identifying the partner to be considered for a matched job share.

All matched job shares are awarded in conjunction with one-month COLAs in seniority order. If additional company time off remains, available unmatched job shares will be paired, and remaining COLAs will be awarded in seniority order.

More information, including detailed instructions on submitting requests for COLAs and Job shares can be obtained in the "COLA, Job Share and Multiple-Month Partnership Program Overview”guide.

Additional details about all Leaves of Absence, including related benefits, timelines and pay can be obtained in the “LOA Packet”found on our website, unitedafa.org.

The Cause Foundation® - Making Your Holiday Purchases Count!

Candy cane scarves & ties for the holiday are available through November & December.   As we enter the holiday season be on the lookout for CAUSE representatives in your local domicile. When you purchase a Red and White Candy Cane seasonal scarf and tie you are helping to support fellow Flight Attendants in need.

As we ramp up for holiday gift giving, consider placing your online orders through Amazon Smile or iGive. When you direct your online purchase through one of these sites, the CAUSE Foundation will receive donations each and every time you purchase something online. In other words, while you shop and spend money, you are helping to support the work of the CAUSE Foundation at the same time.

Amazon Smile

When ordering from Amazon,

  • Visit www.smile.amazon.com(instead of Amazon.com whenever shopping Amazon)
  • Register the CAUSE Foundation as your charity (you’ll need to scroll down the list. The CAUSE Foundation is the one listed in Parker, CO)

The website and prices are exactly the same. The only difference is that by using the AmazonSmile site, a portion of your purchase will go to The CAUSE Foundation.

iGive

Shopping via iGive is essentially a store rebate program where iGive members have the opportunity to donate their rebate to their chosen cause. iGive receives compensation beyond the posted donation amounts, and many stores pay to advertise on our site. When iGive members shop via iGive special links, an “iGive Cookie” is assigned to your browser. This tells the store, “Here is an iGive Member” using a meaningless member ID number. The store reports back with this number and the amounts for the donation to your cause. iGive never have access to any payment information.

Click the iGive logo below to be directed to the CAUSE Foundation special link

Alternatively, you can always sign up to make a monthly donation to The CAUSE Foundation. 100% of your donation goes directly to Flight Attendants in need.

The CAUSE Foundation® was established in 1994 by Flight Attendants for Flight Attendants. Our mission is to assist United Airlines Flight Attendants and their families worldwide who are in financial distress due to illness, injury, or disability. The CAUSE Foundation® helps families maintain their dignity when faced with loss of income or overwhelming medical bills.

The dedicated efforts of the CAUSE Foundation are life altering for those who are the beneficiaries of this program helping Flight Attendants

We Support Delta Flight Attendant Efforts to Join AFA

Thousands of Flight Attendants at Delta Air Lines have asked AFA to join them in efforts to become full members of our union.

As long as Delta management retains control of pay, benefits and working conditions at the industry’s most profitable airline, our bargaining power at each of our airlines is cut short. An MIT study of Flight Attendant total compensation – wages, benefits, and profit sharing – found that on average Delta Flight Attendants made $14,000 less last year than a United Flight Attendant. We know from our negotiations that Delta pays $100 million less a year than United Airlines for Flight Attendant costs in the same size operation. As long as Delta can claim to speak for the 25,000 Flight Attendants at the airline, our efforts to achieve proper staffing, rest, job security, and safety standards through government regulations are undermined.

Right now, we can start to correct this by helping to lift the voices of Delta Flight Attendants and protect their rights under the Railway Labor Act as they organize. And, when Delta Flight Attendants vote to join AFA we will strengthen our voice, our bargaining power, and our standing in every issue that affects our jobs like never before.

AFA Endeavor Flight Attendants are a Delta wholly-owned regional airline, and this effort directly affects their representation too as we address issues like concerns about toxic uniforms and the ability to share in Delta’s success.

Already, talk of AFA at Delta has encouraged management to improve the wage scale, announce plans to implement 10 hours minimum rest by February 2020, and promise to implement certain provisions of the United contract that produce more compensation for Flight Attendants. But, as long as Delta Flight Attendants are without a contract like management at Delta has for themselves, promises can change and our ability to move our careers forward will not reached its full potential.

AFA has a long history with Delta Flight Attendants, and we have always thought of all Flight Attendants as part of our AFA family. Interestingly, over 40 percent of the seniority list has been hired at Delta since the last union vote nine years ago. The energy and excitement for our Flight Attendant union is palpable. Help us welcome Delta Flight Attendants to our union today as we work together to build power for aviation’s first responders. Visit www.afacwa.org/deltawelcome to learn more about how you can support Delta Flight Attendants.

Thank you for all you do every day as aviation’s first responders. We will always work to strengthen our union and achieve results that matter to Flight Attendants. We are Stronger Together, Better Together.
