As of August 15, 2019 unaccompanied minor (UMNR) pass riders will count towards the cap of six (6) UMNR per flight. This limit will be in effect regardless of the number of open seats on the flight. Pass riders, including UMNRs, will continue to be cleared for a seat in boarding priority and seniority order. This means that a UMNR pass rider might not be awarded a seat, even in a situation where there are available customer seats on the aircraft.  

For our understanding, let’s review a couple of situations that demonstrate this policy:

• 6 revenue UMNRs and 2 UMNR pass riders listed 
  • UMNR pass riders will not be accommodated due to cap of 6, even if there are open seats 
• 5 revenue UMNRs and 2 UMNR pass riders listed 
  • 1 UMNR pass rider will be accommodated 
  • 1 UMNR pass rider will not be accommodated due to cap of 6, even if there are open seats

Customer Service will receive an alert in company systems when the cap of 6 UMNRs has been met. In the event of irregular operations, as with revenue passengers, Customer Service Solutions (847) 700-7800 will be consulted by the Customer Service representative prior to exceeding the cap.

Pass riders will be able to see the number of booked UMNRs in the flight details on employeeRES to help them plan their travel. More information about our UMNR pass rider policies can be found on our Employee Travel page.

As we know, company policy has been revised to seat UMNRs toward the rear of the aircraft in the designated UMNR area. UMNR pass riders should, to the extent possible, be accommodated in the designated UMNR area.  However, policy also provides for a pass rider UMNR to be boarded on the flight and not in the designated UMNR seating area.  If an UMNR is unable to be seated in the designated area, Customer Service is required to advise crew members of UMNR pass rider's new seat assignment.
