April is National Stress Awareness Month

Date: April 25, 2023
Type: AFA Article

As you may know, April is recognized as National Stress Awareness Month, and AFA-CWA is using this opportunity to draw attention to the importance of prioritizing mental health and well-being in the workplace, particularly for essential workers like Flight Attendants who have been on the frontlines of the pandemic.

Managing stress is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle, and it's critical to recognize what stress and anxiety look like, take steps to build resilience, and know where to go for help. During this month, we urge you to take proactive measures to manage your stress levels, prioritize your mental health, and engage in self-care activities such as exercise, meditation, and seeking professional help if necessary.

We are providing resources and support to help our Members cope with stress and anxiety, including access to counseling services and wellness programs. We recognize that Flight Attendants face unique challenges on a daily basis, including long hours, difficult passengers, and potential safety hazards. As essential workers who have worked tirelessly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the safety and well-being of passengers, we want to make sure that your mental health and well-being are a priority.

We encourage you to visit the Mental Health American (MHA) website, which provides tips on how to reduce stress by utilizing a Stress Screener. Also, take some time to familiarize yourself with stress management strategies on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.

Thank you for all that you do and stay safe.
